TaaBasamu means “smile” in Swahili. It began in 2021 when Eddy shared a simple dream: to bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to children and families in one of Kenya’s most vulnerable communities.
What started with a small group of friends is now a registered nonprofit in Kenya. In a short time, TaaBasamu has sponsored students, provided school supplies, and organized food and clothing drives.
While the need is great, resources have been limited and support has mostly come from within Kenya.
To help grow the mission, Friends of TaaBasamu was formed in March 2025 as a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This allows supporters worldwide to give tax-deductible donations and expand the impact.
Together, we can help more children access education, support more families, and bring more smiles to those who need them most.

Our mission is simple: to empower vulnerable children by opening doors to opportunity.
Based in the Kibera slum, we serve one of Kenya’s most underserved communities. We run programs that bring help and hope to families, including food donations, education sponsorships, sports and recreation.
One of our proudest milestones was awarding our first education scholarship. Today, 10 children are sponsored, giving them a chance for a brighter future through learning.
Our work is just beginning. Many families still need support—safe spaces, education, and hope for a better tomorrow.
Our vision is to grow our impact by building partnerships,
increasing resources, and reaching more households.
With your support, we can create lasting change for the children and families of Kibera.
